Welcome!

Under the Sun is a new public radio series on WLRN 91.3 FM and WKWM 91.5 (in the Keys) that focuses on life in South Florida.  The program will reflect the many perspectives, passions, and accents throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties. Under the Sun is a co-production of WLRN and ZG Public Media.

Our mission is to offer a platform for uniquely South Floridian voices.  We want to tell the extraordinary stories of everyday people, visit unsung places, and spark debate over under-reported issues.

We’ll bring you host interviews, reported feature stories, sound collages, and interactive listener segments.

Under the Sun is a one-hour weekend special, with individual segments rebroadcast during Morning Edition and All Things Considered.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Help us bring you what you want to hear and see.

What was your favorite part of the show?  Least favorite?  What would you like to see on the website?  We are in pilot phase right now, both with our radio show and our website, so we would love to hear your feedback.

Lend us your thoughts

We welcome and encourage your comments in the hope of fostering lively conversation on our website.  If you have questions about a story or blog post, don’t hesitate to ask.

Please keep your comments civil, brief, and on topic.  Under the Sun reserves the right to delete comments.  We may remove comments that are off-topic, contain profanity, or that violate the spirit of civil public discourse – a hallmark of public radio.

In order to weed out spammers, we ask you to enter your email address when you submit a comment.  We also ask for your zip code because this is a show about the place where we live, and we’d like to get an idea of where our listeners are from. (If you’re listening from out of town, we want to hear from you too.)  Email information and zip codes are private and are not published in your comments or shared.

Suggest a story

Do you know of a great South Florida story?  Have a suggestion about an issue you are curious about, but don’t hear much about?  Is there a place we should visit?  Please send us your ideas.

Ask a question

“What’s Up with South Florida?” is our regular segment where we invite listeners to tell us what they find confusing, unusual, or downright odd about South Florida.  Does something make you wonder “What’s Up With South Florida?”  Leave us a comment here or leave us a message at 305-995-2408.  Your question may be answered in a future Under the Sun episode.  Also, please join our Facebook group, “What’s Up with South Florida?”

Share your photos

Soon we’ll invite users to submit their photos for a “South Florida Photo of the Week” feature.  Stay tuned!

Submit your music

We hope to use Under the Sun as a platform for the diverse music of South Florida.  If we use your music in a radio story, we will feature your track and a brief bio on our website.
Please send .mp3 or .wav files  for consideration to alicia@wlrnunderthesun.org or via snail mail to Alicia Zuckerman, ZG Public Media, WLRN Studios, 172 NE 15th Street, Miami, FL 33132.  Include an email and phone number where we can contact you.
