UNDER THE SUN THEME

Our theme music is an original remix of “Gallo Pinto” from the album Electrodomesticos.  The band blends improvisational electronic elements and turntables with Latin, funk, hip hop, and dub to create what they call an electronic descarga.  On any given night, the audience may well include people dancing salsa  alongside break-dancers.

DJ Le Spam (Andrew Yeomanson), was born in Montreal and raised in Canada, Colombia and England.  He has lived in Miami for the  last 15 years.  He started his musical career as a guitar player in the Haitian band Lavalas, then went out on the road with Miami-based artist Nil Lara.  When he was off the road, he began to DJ locally.  This evolved into adding live musicians to his DJ gigs.

Spam Allstars have been playing Thursday night gigs at Hoy Como Ayer in Little Havana since 2002.  The band performs 200 or more shows each year, here in South Florida, and around the country.  Their six CDs and three vinyl releases are out on their own label, Spamusica Records.

Why We're Telling These Stories

From Abe Rich's nephew...

On behalf of my family, friends and those that were close to my Uncle - thank you! It is truly a treasure to have the piece recorded and available for us and future generations to cherish. The story really captures his character, persona and spirit. Abe was a simple man, a man who struggled to survive during a tragic era in our history. His traumas and survival instinct kept him alive in Europe, Israel and in Miami as he worked till he could no longer stand up. As it said on his shop wall... "There is no substitute for hard work." I believe you and everyone at WLRN work very hard to provide us with wonderful programming and go above and beyond your call of duty. Thank you very much.
