Those of you who attended “An Evening Under the Sun” have already enjoyed this animated video by Kenny Malone.  For those of you who weren’t there, here’s the story:

Editor Dan Grech assigned Assistant Producers Kenny Malone and Trina Sargalski to report a story about getting past the doorman at nightclubs.  With the detachment appropriate to their position, Kenny and Trina arrived at Club Space in downtown Miami ready to report on the velvet rope.

At one point, Trina asked doorman Alan T if Kenny would make the cut.  Unfortunately, Alan T rejected Kenny and was none too kind about his wardrobe.   Kenny was surprised to find how personally he took this.   Later, Trina hooked Kenny up with Nicole Chipi of the nightclub the Vagabond.  Nicole came to Kenny’s house to personally assess his wardrobe and give him to some advice.  Here’s the animated version of what happened next….

  1. Bobby says:

Well…I am very proud to say that the so-called ‘wallflower’ sporting Florentine leather and faux-linen aviary shirts was my roommate in college freshman year. Ever the trend-setter, Kenny certaily has a flair for sporting unique threads. I am very curious to find out what happened at Club Space, part 2.

Great animation, too. The only thing that would have been better would be to have had Janet Jackson’s ‘Rope Burn’ from her ‘The Velvet Rope’ CD…ironic juxtaposition??

  2. Mom says:

I’m Kenny’s Mom, and I can verify that he did indeed buy the leather jacket in Florence. I was glad to hear that he bought the Bird Shirt on-line. I thought he had gotten it at Value City before it closed in Pennsylvania. Maybe I really should nominate him for “What Not to Wear”.
Bottom line is no matter what he wears, his father and I are really proud of him!

  3. Lauren says:

those laces are hipster. Love the animation!

Why We're Telling These Stories

From Abe Rich's nephew...

On behalf of my family, friends and those that were close to my Uncle - thank you! It is truly a treasure to have the piece recorded and available for us and future generations to cherish. The story really captures his character, persona and spirit. Abe was a simple man, a man who struggled to survive during a tragic era in our history. His traumas and survival instinct kept him alive in Europe, Israel and in Miami as he worked till he could no longer stand up. As it said on his shop wall... "There is no substitute for hard work." I believe you and everyone at WLRN work very hard to provide us with wonderful programming and go above and beyond your call of duty. Thank you very much.
