Two stories from the premiere episode of Under the Sun won awards from the South Florida Society of Professional Journalists.

A True Old World Craftsman by Tristram Korten won first place for feature reporting in radio.  This was Tristram Korten’s first radio piece.   He profiled Abe Rich, a South Beach pool cue maker and Holocaust survivor.

Rich passed away shortly after Korten interviewed him.  We are humbled and grateful that Rich shared his story with us.

Alicia Zuckerman, Dan Grech  and Peter J. Maerz helped edit and produce this feature.  Paul Leary mixed the piece.

A Penny Per Pound by Ruth Morris won second place for continuing coverage in radio.  Morris chronicled the struggle between tomato pickers and Burger King.  She profiled Norberto Jimenez, a migrant worker who joined the cause and ultimately returned home to Mexico.

This piece was produced with help from Kenny Malone, Dan Grech and Alicia Zuckerman.  Wanda Myles mixed the story.

We are proud to be recognized by fellow journalists and radio producers for our early efforts.  Go Team Under the Sun!
