South Florida’s killer constrictors made headlines this week, as Sen. Bill Nelson told a congressional panel that the Burmese python is thriving in the Everglades and tops the list of invasive species spreading across the country.

The panel is examining a surge of invasive species, including many that arrive in the United States in the bilge water of sea-going freighters.

Check out  the Miami Herald’s coverage of efforts to curb the giant constrictors.
