“Proofreading Woman” by The Rock Bottom Remainders

This song played in “South Florida:  The Perfect Setting for a  ‘Zany Thriller,’” the literary roundtable feature in Episode 3.  It’s from the music-by-writers compilation album, Stranger than Fiction.

The Rock Bottom Remainders include an ever-changing roster of authors.  Past and current members include Dave Barry, Stephen King, Amy Tan, Ray Blount Jr., and Matt Groening.  South Florida’s Carl Hiaasen also joins the band sometimes.  Dave Barry claims Hiaasen “is an unbelievably talented guy [and] may be the single worst musician I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Book publicist and part-time rocker Kathi Kamen Goldmark founded The Rock Bottom Remainders in the 1990’s. They premiered at an American Booksellers Convention.

The band is known more for its novelty than its musicianship.  According to Ridley Pearson, who plays bass guitar, “The more we drink, the better we sound.”  The Rock Bottom Remainders perform at the annual Miami Book Fair International.

Why We're Telling These Stories

From Abe Rich's nephew...

On behalf of my family, friends and those that were close to my Uncle - thank you! It is truly a treasure to have the piece recorded and available for us and future generations to cherish. The story really captures his character, persona and spirit. Abe was a simple man, a man who struggled to survive during a tragic era in our history. His traumas and survival instinct kept him alive in Europe, Israel and in Miami as he worked till he could no longer stand up. As it said on his shop wall... "There is no substitute for hard work." I believe you and everyone at WLRN work very hard to provide us with wonderful programming and go above and beyond your call of duty. Thank you very much.
