Blogging the Book Fair

Thu, Nov 12, 2009

Bric a brac

For a second year, the Florida Book Review staff (made up mostly of MFA students from FIU) will be live-blogging from the Miami Book Fair International. Their first post is up: a report from Margaret Atwood’s talk on Sunday.

If this year’s blog is like last year’s, it will be a trenchant mix of event observations (”Dave Barry + Frank McCourt = Hilarity”), street-level observations (”If Miami were a comic book hero, its super power would be striking people down with heat stroke”) and audience contributions through the Blogging Gator (a box where they collect comments).

Look for the Blogging Gator this weekend at the Gulf Stream Magazine/Miami Poetry Collective booth. And while you’re there, stop by the WLRN booth, where you can pick up information about Under the Sun and contribute queries to our “What’s Up With South Florida” feature.

Why We're Telling These Stories

From Abe Rich's nephew...

On behalf of my family, friends and those that were close to my Uncle - thank you! It is truly a treasure to have the piece recorded and available for us and future generations to cherish. The story really captures his character, persona and spirit. Abe was a simple man, a man who struggled to survive during a tragic era in our history. His traumas and survival instinct kept him alive in Europe, Israel and in Miami as he worked till he could no longer stand up. As it said on his shop wall... "There is no substitute for hard work." I believe you and everyone at WLRN work very hard to provide us with wonderful programming and go above and beyond your call of duty. Thank you very much.
