Under The Sun Awards

Florida State Archives
The results are in for the Florida Associated Press Broadcasters contest, and Under the Sun is happy to announce two of our producer/reporters were recognized!
Ruth Morris took first place for Best Hard News Radio Feature for her piece about a young woman who bought a condo in Miami Beach and found herself living alone in the building as foreclosure notices piled up around her. Hosts Dan Grech and Alicia Zuckerman edited the story, titled “Under Water, but Undeterred.” Listen here.
In the Best Use of Sound category, Under the Sun’s Trina Sargalski took second place for her bubbly depiction of a day in the life of a working mermaid. Listen here to Marina Duran-Anderson, as she describes her job.
You can also hear children’s thoughts on what makes a mermaid, as they watch her swim, in Trina’s web extra.
Under the Sun host Alicia Zuckerman also won a second-place spot in Best Light Feature for her work on WLRN’s ”Jazz Roots” series, with Larry Rosen.
Two National Council on Crime and Delinquency PASS Awards also went to Under The Sun team members.
Kenny Malone won for his report on Queen Brown, which followed a woman’s very personal fight against youth violence.
Trina Sargalski also picked up an award for her feature in All in a Day’s Work, on a speaking coach for felons.
Finally, the Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Use of Sound for Large Market Radio went to Malone and Sargalski for their attempts to get past the Velvet Rope.
Congrats to all!!!!
