10 Questions with Aaron Curtis

Aaron Curtis, originally from Syracuse, New York, is the author of Shorts. He is a book buyer at Books & Books and lives in Coral Gables.
1. How long have you been in South Florida?
I moved to Miami in 1997.
2. What’s your six-word South Florida memoir?
Tall divorced writer finds new family.
3. Which South Florida author would you most like to have with you on a deserted island and why?
Diana Abu-Jaber because she’s a great conversationalist and could probably whip up something delicious using only coconuts, seawater and palm fronds.
4. Word or phrase you forbid yourself from using in your writing?
Anything ending in an exclamation point.
5. Favorite South Florida indicted politician and why?
Alex Daoud because he got Sins of South Beach out of it.
6. First South Florida author you’d eat on a deserted island and why?
I’d eat Dr. Arthur Agatston as payback for Phase One of the South Beach Diet, also known as the two weeks I went without carbs and lashed out at pretty much everyone.
7. Favorite thing about the tourist season?
The sales at Books & Books are up.
8. Who’s not running for mayor of Miami-Dade County that should be?
P. Scott Cunningham. Poetry for all.
9. Where would you rather be than in South Florida?
Probably New Orleans.
10. In three words, how do you describe the experience of living in South Florida?
Sweaty melting pot.
