I was found in a basket floating in the Everglades.
2. What’s your six-word South Florida memoir?
Big ass, big heart, Cuban American.
3. Which South Florida author would you most like to have with you on a deserted island and why?
Carl Hiassen because he can weave a funny yarn.
4. Word or phrase you forbid yourself from using in your writing?
I operate a non-discriminatory word policy. Please practice compassion for all words.
5. First South Florida author you’d eat on a deserted island and why?
I don’t eat authors, but rum punch and jerk chicken would be nice.
6. Who’s not running for mayor of Miami-Dade County that should be?
Bryan Norcross.
7. The last night club you went to, what you drank, how much you paid for the drink and how much to get in?
I don’t remember as far back as 1985, sorry.
8. Color that most makes you want to vomit when you see it in South Florida?
Anything by Romero Britto.
9. What does the rest of the world have totally wrong about this part of the country?
The rest of the world thinks Miami is the same as South Beach and that Horatio Cane is lurking around every corner.
10. In three words, how do you describe the experience of living in South Florida?
Hot, humid, wet.
