South Floridians have enjoyed the convenience of ordering basic necessities at the Farm Stores drive-through since the 1950s. As the landscape of the area has evolved, so has the chain. Nicknamed "La Vaquita" by Hispanics, the stores now sell Latin staples as well. Former Under the Sun intern Julia Longoria speaks with the chain's CEO and with her father, who recalls walking to the store as a teenager with his father to enjoy classic American fare - milk and ice cream.

Cuban nostalgia for 3 cents a cup

The price of coffee in pre-Castro Cuba: 3 cents. The price of coffee at a Hialeah café: 3 cents. Feelings of nostalgia felt by many Cubans in South Florida: priceless. A former restaurant owner tried to honor his roots by offering the Cuban staple at a historic price. Although the restaurant is no longer open, we are reminded of places that evoke nostalgia and define the South Florida experience.

Brooks Rumenik is the director of the Office of Safe Schools at the Florida Department of Education in Tallahassee. The office is responsible for state-level oversight and support in the areas of substance abuse and violence prevention for students in kindergarten through 12the grade and data collection efforts for school-wide discipline and climate. Rumenik serves as a liaison for citizens, parents and students who have questions about discipline and safety in schools.

Micah Robbins is the executive director of South Florida Drug Free Youth in Town, or DFYIT. The 19-year-old nonprofit organization works in collaboration with Miami-Dade and Broward schools. DFYIT is an after-school club emphasizing community service, drug/alcohol awareness and social support. The club requires members to agree to voluntary random drug tests. It also conducts educational sessions on bullying for members.

Trish Ramsay the education director at the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention in Miami. She has been with the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention for 10 years. The institute is a local, nonprofit organization that works to end violence through education, community service and research. Ramsay helps coordinate education programs for schools, parents and teachers. She also arranges presentations by the international researchers that sit on the scientific board at the Melissa Institute. Two of the psychologists and researchers on the board, Wendy Craig and Dr. Debra Peplar, have studied bullying for decades.
