The sight of snowbirds escaping the bitter northern cold is common in South Florida. Not so common is a Canadian woman who makes her way to Carlan Mobile Home Park in Davie several times a year to visit her childhood nanny who is now 95 years old.

Many people believe the green flash is a myth, repeated for the benefit of tourists. Others swear by its existence. So is it real? If so, what causes it?
It's very easy to dismiss Key West as a tacky touristland, but journalist Frank Deford finds the many contradictions of the Conch Republic unique and appealing.
